The letter below is being used by some people on social media to discredit the government. Several people have commented on this, and said this government was lying to us from day one, so how can Malawians trust them again in 2025.
In the interest of fair commentary, what is not being highlighted by these people is that in any new government which includes multiple parties, there tends to be lots of discussions. And inevitably sometimes viewpoints of the party leaders differ.
So, just because UTM was in an alliance with MCP did not mean that the late Saulos Chilima agreed with everything Lazarus Chakwera suggested or vice versa.
What is important, in these scenarios, is how the difference in opinion translates into a cooperative working partnership that drives the country forward. Because as an alliance, you can’t be telling the public that you don’t like what your partners are doing, suggesting or proposing. Such disagreements must, as a matter of practicality, occur behind closed doors.
