Malawi’s police officers need modern houses. There we agree. So these houses, which i understand were inaugurated sometime last year by the previous government, are a step in the right direction.

But in my opinion, because of the space constraints we have in the country, what is required are multi floor properties like the following:

They would occupy less space, and would free up land for subsistence farming. I think even many of the older police houses built in the 70s and 80s in Malawi could be upgraded to units that look more like this.

We don’t have enough land in Malawi, so we need to normalise building upwards.
