Speaking on the Chris Hedges Report, former Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis says the US and Israeli war on Iran will cause a Global Financial Crisis.

This is terrible news and matters, because such global shifts often affect poor countries like Malawi the most, since they have fewer reserves and ways to cushion their economies. We’ve seen it in the past before. And at the time, like during Covid or in 2008/ 2009 Malawi had more help, than it currently has.

So, our leaders in Malawi now have to take note of this, and have to start making some preparatory steps, not least to sensitise the masses. We shouldn’t wait until the recession has arrived at our door, before we start to react.

If what Varoufakis is predicting is true, and he’s rarely wrong, it means there lies ahead a period of much economic pain.

Thus, it is in our interests that we start taking measures now, to insulate, and protect the poorest in our society against what lies ahead, and to make sure that the country can run through what may indeed be an economically hostile period.
