With frequent reports that a well-known Malawian online newspaper is being financed by at least one political party in Malawi, in exchange of media support for that party and less criticism, a bit of history shows just how rough and tumultuous the journey for a newspaper can be, even for one that is now considered to be a stalwart internationally.
Having said that, it’s a shame to see a newspaper compromise its founding principles ( assuming there were any) for monetary gain or political favours.
